What kind of school is Prentice?

The Prentice School is an independent, non-profit, day school for intelligent and creative students with language-based learning disabilities such as dyslexia. Other related learning differences include: dysgraphia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia (apraxia), reading disorder, writing disorder, specific learning disabilities, and/or working memory, attention, auditory processing and visual processing issues.

What grades to you teach?

Prentice offers classes from Pre-Kindergarten (starting at age 4) through High School.  Prentice partnered with Allied National High School offers high school courses through a hybrid learning environment for students in grades 9-12.

What is the class size?

Prentice has 3 maximum classroom sizes for different grade levels:
  • 12 students for Pre-K and Kindergarten
  • 15 students for the Elementary School (Grades 1-5)
  • 16 students for the Junior High School (Grades 6-8)

Are you a year-round school?

No.  Prentice is on a traditional school year, starting in mid-August and ending in mid-June.

What approach do you use in teaching students?

Prentice uses the Slingerland Multisensory Structured Language Approach.

Are you an accredited school?

Yes.  In 2003 and 2009, Prentice received a prestigious six-year accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
