Assessment and Testing
Is your child bright, but having difficulty with reading, spelling, handwriting and/or spoken/written language? Your child's education is in your hands...Let us help!
As a service to the community, Prentice provides assessment and testing on-site at affordable rates. Our psychologist administers IQ testing as well as achieve-ment testing. Several members of the faculty are qualified to administer grade-level Slingerland screening tests. The screening, a series of language arts related tasks, provides information on a student’s strong and weak learning channels – visual, auditory, and/or kinesthetic. In addition we offer Saturday Slingerland Screenings from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the following days during the 2007-2008 school year:
• February 2, 2008
• April 19, 2008
• May 31, 2008
Click here (Assessment and Training) to obtain detailed information about the screenings and fees involved.

High School Transition Program
In order to make the transition between The Prentice School and high school easier on parents and students, the junior high school principal visits the high school(s) that students are considering for placement. The purpose of the visit is to determine:
• Size of school
• Delivery of resource services
• Type of class schedule (block or traditional)
• Programs and services offered to accommodate students with Specific Language Differences
Later in the school year Prentice also offers afternoon and/or evening parent seminars on high school transition, which concentrates on:
• Placement testing/applications/teacher recommendations/interviews
• Dialoguing with faculty
• Assistive technology
In addition, the Junior High School Principal meets with the parents of every 7th-grade student to discuss possible opportunities for high school enrollment. The principal counsels students as they prepare to matriculate to high school. She also encourages parents to call Prentice if problems arise as the student begins his/her high school experience.
During the summer, the Junior High School Principal teaches a High School Survival Skills class that covers:
• Note taking/graphic organizing
• Memory techniques
• Studying strategies
• Term paper and research paper writing
• Test-taking strategies
• Time management organization
• Active reading

Occupational Therapy
The school has arranged for an outside Occupational Therapist to work on cam-pus two mornings a week during the 2007-2008 school year. She works with small groups of students, and she also observes students in their classrooms and collaborates with teachers. This service is provided at an extra cost paid directly to the Occupational Therapist.
Psychological Guidance
A psychologist/counselor is on staff to advise teachers about meeting the individual needs of each student. Psycho-educational testing is also available.
Social Skills Training
Qualified staff help build all students’ socialization skills and self-esteem through group activities and/or cognitive coaching.
Speech and Language Sessions
Small-group and individual speech and language therapy with a speech pathologist are available for an extra fee.
