Early Intervention is Key

Prentice Early Primary Program (PEPP)

For a young child, early intervention often means the difference between success and failure in school. It means she/he is protected from failure and has not developed ineffective ways to cope in the classroom. Self-esteem remains strong while the young child develops a love of school and learning.
The Prentice School has developed the a new Prentice Early Primary Program (PEPP) that provides the foundation for later school success for all 4-6 year olds in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten. The program is oral-language based, multi-sensory, and focuses on the necessary skills for school success.

The Prentice program provides:
• The opportunity for children to interact with their environment through exploration and interaction, using all three learning channels
• A safe and nurturing environment that promotes physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development
• A book-enriched classroom that enables children to develop a love of books and literature
• The modeling of good language usage and vocabulary development
• Small class size, with a maximum of 12
• An experienced teacher and instructional assistant with backgrounds in early childhood development

These are the clues that indicate a child may struggle later with reading, writing, and/or spelling:
• Delay in learning to talk
• Family history of reading, writing, and/or spelling problems
• Difficulty or disinterest in learning nursery rhymes
• Mispronunciation of words
• Problems in learning new vocabulary
• Difficulty following directions
