OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Occupational therapy (OT) supports a student's ability to participate in everyday activities (occupations) at school. During OT, we work with children to improve executive functioning, fine and gross motor skills, coordination, motor planning, self-care skills, visual perceptual and visual motor skills, sensory processing, self-regulation, social skills, and more. OT promotes participation and learning in the school setting through skill development, task adaptations, environmental modifications, and collaboration with teachers, staff, and families.

Animal assisted therapy (AAT) is also offered and incorporated as part of occupational therapy services at Prentice. AAT promotes an individual's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive functioning through goal-directed activities which may involve training, caring for, and interacting with therapy dogs.
